COMMUNITY TALKS

April 1, 2008:   "Dealing with Loss and Grief: Creating Your Life's Legacy" (Part of "Living with Memory Loss", a 10-week education and support series for people with memory loss and their care partners).

The losses experienced by people with Alzheimers and other dementias evoke grief in the person and their loved ones. One way of coping with the grief of memory loss is to document what the person with dementia still remembers of their life and what members of their family recall of the person's life journey.

Join us to learn how to keep your values, stories, and wisdom alive when facing memory loss. Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Location: Cascade Adult Center, 996 Jefferson St. in Eugene. For more information and to preregister (required), call: 726-4484.

May 15, 2008:   "Aging Positively: Keys to Contentment for Older Adults"

With more people living longer than ever before, a growing number of women and men are dealing with issues of their physical health, memory, and daily functioning. Even so, the vast majority of elders view growing old as a meaningful time of life, filled with creative possibilities and enjoyment in spite of the physical and mental challenges of their aging bodies.

Having a positive frame of mind about aging and the practice of life-enhancing activities seem to be the best measures of whether or not we'll live a creative, contented life in our elderhood.

Participants will learn four basic actions that are vital to growing old with a positive frame of mind. Come to share ways of growing older creatively ... and with contentment.  Thursday afternoon: 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. Location: Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C St. in Springfield. Preregister on their website or call: 736-4444.
